# Versioning

> What can change within v1, and how breaking changes are handled.

This is version 1 of the API, at `https://api.reedapt.com/v1`.

Within a version we only **add** things:

* new endpoints;
* new optional request fields;
* new fields in answers;
* new error codes and new event types.

Write your code so these don't break it: ignore fields and event types you don't know, and handle an unknown error code by its HTTP status.

A change that could break working code comes as a new version, such as `/v2`. We announce it at least 12 months before the old version stops. Changes are listed in the [changelog](https://docs.reedapt.com/changelog.md).
